Identifying and correcting the habits
Children tend to develop certain unhealthy oral habits such as lip biting, nail biting, tongue thrusting, thumb sucking, bruxism(teeth grinding), mouth breathing, etc. Most often, these habits stop by the age of three to four. But, if this habit continues after 4 years of age, it can change the shape of the jaws, change the position of teeth and lead to irregular arrangement of the teeth. These changes must be corrected from the early stages itself ideally by 5 years of age. There are various appliances or devices designed to control such oral habits and are termed as habit breaking appliances.
Some children may have a condition called mouth breathing. A blockage in the nasal cavity may be the reason for this. It can also be a sign of airway obstruction that could have negative growth effects. Smile and Glow helps to detect and treat the condition at its early stage.
